Billy Joe Thompson

Funeral services for Billy Joe Thompson, 81, of Gladewater will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018, at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gladewater with Bro. Bailey Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Mims Chapel Cemetery in Marion County. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Joe passed away Monday, May 14, 2018, in Gladewater.

Mr. Joe Thompson was born October 11, 1936 in Hughes Springs, Texas to the late Andrew W. Thompson and Lorene Rowe Thompson. Joe worked as a manager for Gray’s Grocery and Brookshire’s before retiring after 55 years of service. After retirement he continued to serve his community by volunteering his time at the Manna House three days a week. Joe was the youngest of his siblings and enjoyed being the favorite. He was a faithful and devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Gladewater. Joe will be remembered as hardworking, willing to help anyone in need and for his great sense of humor. He loved everybody especially his family and treated his nieces and nephews as if they were his children. Joe will be truly missed by all the friends and family he leaves behind.

Joe is survived by his brother James E. Thompson and wife Evelyn; ten nieces and nephews Linda Davis, Johnny and Madeline Nixon, Mike and Judy Pierce, Valeria and Michael Stephens, Robert and DeLois Thompson, Jeannie and Glenwood Oney, Jr., Michael and Laurie Thompson, Roxanne and Dan Piatt, Jimmy and JoLynn Thompson and Scott and Andrea Briscoe; numerous great and great great nieces and nephews as well as many other loving family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Lorene Thompson; two sisters Mattie Sue Thompson and infant baby girl Thompson; two brothers R.C. Thompson and wife Reita and Bobby Lee Thompson and two nephews Jimmy Nixon and Jerry Nixon.
