Bonita Faye Patrick

Bonita Faye Anderson Patrick, born July 29, 1934 in Oklahoma City, ended a beautiful and loving life here on earth by joining her heavenly Father on March 17, 2018. Bonita was a devoted and extraordinary wife, mother, and grandmother loved by everyone who knew her. On January 1, 1953, she married the love of her life, John Glynn Patrick, who preceded her in death on June 15, 2017 and who was waiting for her in heaven along with her parents, Amon Cecil and Nellie Marguerite Anderson.

Service will be held at First Baptist Church of Gladewater, at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2018. The family will receive visitors at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 20, 2018.

Bonita was the epitome of a perfect wife and mother. Her kindness, wisdom, strength, grace, and understanding nurtured and inspired her husband, children, and grandchildren. “A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” Proverbs 31:10-12,25-31.

Bonita and John met when they were 14 years old and married when they were 18. For the 64 years of their marriage, she was a loving, devoted, supportive, and wise partner and companion.

During her years raising her daughters, Bonita served as a room mother for their classes at school, was involved in PTA, Camp Fire Girls, Vacation Bible School, team mother for sports, and all the other activities of four girls. Her main and chosen career was her family but after her daughters were grown, Bonita also enjoyed working in children’s day care and nursery at church. She loved attending all of her grandchildren’s activities, spending time with them, and spoiling them.

Bonita was an avid reader and world traveler. She enjoyed attending Tuesday Bible Study, Sunday school and church activities. For as long as she was able, Bonita cooked Sunday dinner for her family. Her favorite thing was being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always gathered her family together for holidays and birthdays. Any reason at all was an occasion to celebrate with her family and she always welcomed friends and extended family to join. She also loved and was devoted to her pets, most recently her dog, Lily and her cat, Callie.

Bonita was a member of and served on many committees at First Baptist Church Gladewater. She was also involved in many volunteer and philanthropic activities, including working at the Manna House in Gladewater weekly for many years. Her loving and generous spirit led her to often give to others in need in her community and church.

Bonita was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by those who survive her, her daughters, Tammy Patrick of Garland, TX, Penny Gunn of White Oak, TX, Alisa Bird of Dallas, TX, and daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and John Oxton of Longview TX, her grandchildren, Sarah Oxton Casimiro and husband, Saul Casimiro, Austin Lynch, Tyler Oxton, Natalie Bird, Amanda Gunn, Elizabeth Bird, and her great grandchildren, Anabelle, Victoria, Elijah, and Elliana Casimiro. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Don Stubblefield, sisters-in-law, Hughleen Patrick, Shirley Patrick, and Ann Patrick, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers of Elite Home Health and Compass Hospice who made it possible for our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to live her last days at home with her family in the lakeside home that she and John loved so much.
