Garland F. "Rusty" Hollis, Sr.

Services for Garland F. “Rusty” Hollis, Sr., 71, of Kilgore will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 17, 2017, at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gladewater with Pastor Michael Heim officiating. A private family burial will follow at Summerfield Cemetery in Judson, TX. Mr. Hollis died Thursday, July 13, 2017 in a local hospital following a lengthy illness.

He was born October 16, 1945 in El Dorado, Arkansas to James and Flossie Hollis. Rusty graduated from Longview High School. He served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Pine Tree Masonic Lodge #1396. Rusty had a love for the outdoors. He loved to camp and was an avid fisherman. He spent much of his time in his shop restoring vehicles, was a very gifted musician who played lead guitar all his life, and loved all styles of music, with Southern Gospel being his favorite. He was a member of White Oak Baptist Church and a former member of the WOBC Praise Team.

Mr. Hollis was preceded in death by his parents, James and Flossie Hollis; brothers, Ralph Hollis, Jerry “Red” Hollis, and sister, Gayla Raye Singleton.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Sheila, and daughter, Chel’sea Herrington, of Kilgore; son and daughter-in-law, Garland F. “Josh” Hollis, Jr., and wife, Cheryl, and granddaughter, Jordan, of Mount Pleasant; brother and sister-in-law, James and Diane Hollis, of Longview; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ruth and David Whitfield, of Longview; sister-in law, Aline Steele, of White Oak; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jo Ann and Bryan Schilling, of Longview; sister-in-law, DeDe Thomson, of Longview; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
