"Jerry" James Russell Adams

Services for Jerry R. Adams, 86, of Gladewater will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 4, 2017, at the Chapel at Croley Funeral Home of Gladewater. Interment will follow at Union Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater. Mr. Adams passed away Monday, July 31, 2017, in Longview. Honorary pallbearers will be his Sunday School Class and Ushers from First United Methodist Church and East Texas Salt Water Disposal coworkers.

Jerry was born on August 16, 1930 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to the late Harold H. and Elsie B. Hansen Adams. He was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving honorably during the Korean War. He worked as an Electrical Engineer for Cities Service Oil Company and East Texas Salt Water Disposal before retirement. He was a dedicated member and supporter of the American Petroleum Institute, and its higher education initiatives and scholarship programs. Jerry was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Gladewater, where he attended Sunday school and was the lead usher. He loved to hit the links for a round of golf, or watch the modern ticker tape for the latest ups and downs of the stock market. He loved spending time with family and friends, and will be dearly missed.

He married the late Peggy A. McEachern, on June 6, 1953 in Gladewater; also preceding him in death were his parents; son Russell Blake Adams; and his only brother, Gene Adams.

Jerry is survived by his son, Blane Adams of Helena, AL.; grandchildren, Corrie L. Adams Bishop and husband Kevin of Grand Prairie, Lindsey C. Adams of Helena, AL.; great grandchildren, Kevin Bishop, Jr., and twins, Khloe and Kaylee Bishop; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and his special Lady Friend, Ms. Rose Jobe of Gladewater.
