Alton Deane Smith

Services for Mr. Alton Deane Smith, 82 of Gilmer will be held 10:00 A.M, Friday, February 26, 2010, at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer with Larry W. Osborne officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Mr. Smith passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, in Gilmer. He was born August 16, 1927, in the Latch Community of Upshur County, Texas to James Marvin Smith and Bertha Mae Holman. Mr. Smith was a retired rail car contractor and a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Smith is survived by his sister and brother-in-law; Marlene and Chris Downing of Gladewater, sister; Nell Ruth Carter of Apache Junction, AZ, brother and sister-in-law; Gib and Gladys Carroll of Mesquite, aunt; Jean Tyson of Carthage, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Ruth Smith in 2001, and brother Norman Smith. The family will receive friends at Croley Funeral Home on Thursday, February 25, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M.
