Alvis Royston Morris

Graveside service for Mr. Alvis Royston Morris, 89, of Gilmer, TX will be held 2:00 P.M., Friday, December 14, 2018 at Sunset Memorial Park in Gilmer, TX with Bro. Jeff Bethard officiating. Mr. Morris passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, in Talco, TX.

A very good friend once asked my dad if he would like to share a favorite piece of advice. He didn’t hesitate when saying, “Do the right thing”.
If you sum up dads life, you would have to conclude that he did the right thing.
He was a devoted son to his mom Nola and dad Barney.
He heeded Uncle Sam’s call to Korea.
He was a devoted husband to his wife, Lena.
He was a devoted dad to his daughters, Juanita and Debbie.
He was a loving granddad to Leah, Karla, Heath and Brandy.
He was a friend to his brother Neil.
He was proud of his many nieces and nephews.
He worked hard during his welding years and remained proud of the fact that he would sometimes go where others much younger, didn’t dare—to the top of high antennas.
There again, he had an advantage, he had a much loved hobby of “ham” radios which required building and maintaining many an antenna tower. Over the years, many “ham” friends heard him check in with the familiar call letters Wa5eeg; and, it remained a chosen hobby though out his life.
He enjoyed, what some would call, the simple things of life. He liked to quail hunt. He like to ride bicycles and he had a favorite bird feeder to spy upon. Many people would notice him just sitting on his front porch watching the traffic. He was happy attending every Yamboree, every year it opened and only missed two in his lifetime. One of those was when he was stationed in Japan.
His easy going nature and gentleness with his family will forever be remembered with love and a steadfastness of “doing the right thing”.
He left his legacy by “doing the right” thing.
