Bessie Mapp

Bessie Mapp, wife of Woodrow Wilson Mapp (deceased) spent her last moments in peace at Beacon Hospice, then went to be with Christ on Monday, October 22 at 2:15 A. M. She was 91 years old and died on her birthday. Her final days were spent surrounded constantly by family, to whom she had been a source of strength, joy and humor throughout her long life. Her family showered her with a birthday party just shy of her birthday; we knew she was holding on to this life awaiting her birthday celebration. Those who were touched by her life understood that her quality of existence far exceeded the many years she was blessed with. Bessie was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Woodrow. She is survived by her daughter, Deloras Ferguson and husband Paul; son David Mapp and wife Sue; daughter Tammy Terry and husband Joey. She was also blessed with eight grandkids and 20 great grandkids. Bessie was the last of five brothers and sisters. She lived a wonderful life of faith and prayer. Bessie was also an incredible cook, known for her butter rolls, pies, homemade yeast rolls and her fried chicken. She was active in her church in the women"s ministry, teaching young people"s classes and active in VBS. She loved the outdoor"s, her garden and flowers, her cats and dogs, her collection of dolls and her art work. Bessie"s presence will be a significant loss to many, many hearts. She truly was a precious woman to all that knew her. The family wishes to express its deep gratitude to Christy Black and the entire staff at Beacon Hospice (Margaret"s House) who loved and cared for Bessie during their care. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held 10:00 A.M, Monday, October 29, 2012 at First Assembly of God Church, 1919 N. Wood St, Gilmer, Texas 75644. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer Donations may be made in memory of Bessie Mapp to Beacon Hospice, P.O. Box 5908, Longview, Texas 75604.
