Funeral services for Betty Jean Maxwell, 71, of Ore City, will be 2:00 PM on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer with Bro. Pat Shannon and Bro. Gaston DeBerry officiating. Interment will follow at Sandhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service time. Mrs. Maxwell passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017 in Ore City.

Betty was born on August 9, 1946 in Gilmer to the late Damon Lee Payne and Frances Irene Harrison Payne. She worked as a Nurse Aid in her younger years. Betty was married to Melvin Dean Maxwell in Jefferson, Texas on September 27, 1968. Mrs. Maxwell was a member of the Coffeeville Baptist Church. She enjoyed listening to gospel music and spending time with family and friends. Betty especially enjoyed her annual trip to Galveston with her friends. Above all her boys were the center of her attention, love and affection. Mrs. Maxwell will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and homemaker. Betty will truly missed by all the loving family and friends she leaves behind.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years Melvin Dean Maxwell, Sr.; three sons Melvin Dean Maxwell, Jr., Bryan Todd Maxwell and Christopher Cody Maxwell and wife Shanna; a sister Judy Reynolds and husband Randy; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews as well as many other loving family and friends.

Mrs. Maxwell is preceded in death by her parents and son Gordon Lynn Maxwell.
