Bobby Dwayne Whorton

GILMER- Funeral services for Bobby Dwayne Whorton, 70, of Gilmer, Texas will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer with Joe Bowers officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Upshur County. Mr. Whorton passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2016 in Longview. He was born on February 14, 1946 in Mount Pleasant, Texas to Herman Whorton and Imogene Crooks Whorton. After graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School he served in the United States Army from 1969-1971 where he was stationed in Germany as a Radio Operator and was fluent in German. In 1974 he started working for Lone Star Steel until his retirement in 2004. He married Paula Garner Whorton on June 23, 1990. Mr. Whorton is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Paula Whorton; daughters, Tonia Alexander and her husband Lee of Zwalle, Louisiana, Ashley Grisham of Boston, Texas, Kathyrn Dykes and husband Scott of Gilmer, Karen Jackson and husband Chris of Longview; grandchildren, Jared and his wife, Kim of Monroe, Louisiana, Lindsey and her husband, Vincent of Vivian, Louisiana, Steven Lewis, Jessica Taber and Liz Dykes, all of Gilmer; brother, Larry "Pee Wee" Whorton and his wife, Debbie of Longview, Danny Whorton and his wife, Janet of Daingerfield; sister-in-law, Doretta Kinat and her husband, Marlin of Houston, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Imogene Whorton and his brother, Ronnie Whorton. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer.
