Cecil Ferrell Smith

Graveside services for Cecil Ferrell Smith, 76 of Gilmer, Texas will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 26, 2017, at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Upshur County with Bro. Danny Trimble officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer. Mr. Smith passed away on Monday, August 21, 2017, in Gilmer.

He was born May 19, 1941 in Turkey, Texas to Cecil Alonzo Smith and Nellie Gilbert Smith. Mr. Smith served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam war. He was a millwright and attended New Hope Baptist Church. Mr. Smith was an animal lover especially dogs and horses, he loved woodworking, John Wayne movies and solitaire.

Mr. Smith loved his family, children and grandchildren and he is survived by a son, Kelly Smith of Gilmer; daughters and sons-in-law, Penny and Roger Johnson of Lewisville, Laddie and Ron Hochstetler of Big Sandy, Mary and Rodney Sutton of Arlington; brothers, James Thomas Smith and his wife, Aloha of Farmington, NM., Gale Smith and his wife, Connie of Gainesville, VA., John Smith of Las Cruces, NM., Stacey Smith and his wife, Elizabeth of El Paso, and Mark Smith and wife, Mitzi of The Colony; sisters, Sylvia Brooks of Pueblo, CO., Charlotte Walker and her husband, Jim of El Paso, Sally Walker and her husband, Ron of Seguin, Texas; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Verbeth Joy Wren in May 2004; son, Cecil G. Smith and brother Gilbert Smith.
