Charles Ray "Boogie" Modisette, Sr.

Graveside services for Charles Ray ”Boogie” Modisette, Sr. are to be held Sunday, December 3, 2017, 2 p.m. at Gladewater Memorial Park in Gladewater, Texas. A family visitation will be at 12 p.m. on Sunday at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater. Boogie was born to Kenneth V. and Ada Modisette, on August 24, 1931, in Springhill, Louisiana. He passed away at home peacefully on November 30th, surrounded by his family.

Boogie (a nickname that began with his father and stuck with him in high school and throughout his life) grew up in White Oak, Texas and graduated high school in 1950. He was a stellar athlete and Captain of the 1949 (Regional Champ.) football team, (District Champ.) basketball team, and (State Champ.) track team. He had many scholarship offers to play college football, but chose to stay near his family.

Boogie served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955. After being discharged, he went to work for Texas Eastman where he retired in 1993 after 38 years of employment.

Boogie was an avid golfer for 60 years and was still playing golf until the last two months of his life. He enjoyed playing in many tournaments with his nephew Curtis Joe of White Oak. He played with the “1 o’ clock bunch” almost daily (and though he always said he lost, had a pocket full of money).

Boogie was a proud Director of the Gladewater PRCA Rodeo for 30 years. He loved his family and was a father-figure to us all. If you were ever in trouble, he was the first person you would call, and BY GOD, he would be there in a flash.

Boogie was thought highly of and will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. He was the salt of the earth and had a heart of pure gold.
