Clarice Ruth Chambliss

On Tuesday, October 14, 2014 Clarice R. Skelton Chambliss, took the hand of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and with Him joined the host of family and friends awaiting her in heaven. She was born January 23, 1925 in Wilburton, Oklahoma, the fourth of six children born to Clarence R. and Ruth Mills Skelton.Clarice's family moved to Gladewater in the 1930's where she attended Gladewater Schools and was a member of the 1944 graduating class of GHS. Upon graduating high school Clarice briefly attended Tyler Commercial College. On June 11, 1947 she married the love of her life F.J. (Joe) Chambliss, and in 2003 they celebrated 56 years of marriage. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Mary-Martha Sunday School Class. She was a housewife and mother. Clarice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one step-grandson, Mark DeVance two Brothers, Bill Skelton and Clarence H. Skelton, Two Sisters, Melba A. Skelton, and Elsie Fern Boles Wolfe.Those left to cherish her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Kathy Chambliss of Gladewater, two step-grandsons Johnny P. De Vance of Henderson, TX. and Michael De Vance of Hunstville, TX., three step-grandchildren and one sister, Betty Lucas of White Oak, TX. and numerous nieces and nephews.A celebration of Clarice's life will be held at Croley Funeral Home chapel at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 18, 2014 with the Rev. Dick Dobbins and Larry W. Osborne officiating. She will be laid to rest in Gladewater Memorial Park.The family will recieve friends form 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 17,2014 at the funeral home.Pallbearers will be: Melvin Parkerson Jr., Carroll Fomby, Clyde Crumpton, C.J. Modisette, Jerry Lucas, and Michael Johns.The famly would like to express their gratitude to Legend Oaks, where she had lived and made it her home the past ten years.
