Services for Norma Cleo Phillips, 84, of Gilmer will be Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer with Reverend Othell LaFerney officiating. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Zion Cemetery in Smith County. Mrs. Phillips passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2016 in Gilmer. Mrs. Phillips was born September 19, 1931 in Gilmer, Texas to the late Joseph Andrew Wood and Annie Jane Burson. She was a retired nurse after many years of service with ETMC, Mother Frances and UT Health Center. Cleo was a longtime active member of the Faith Baptist Church. She truly had a servant"s heart and was willing to help anyone in need. She was an avid reader and loved spending time with family and friends. Cleo was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She will be truly missed by all the friends and family she leaves behind. She is survived by her son Joseph K. Smith; brother and sister-in-law Wayland and Faye Wood; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Peggy and Larry Brown; two granddaughters; four great granddaughters; close friend Rebah Hayes who was like a sister to Cleo; nieces, nephews as well as many other loving family and friends. Mrs. Phillips is preceded in death by the father of her children Carroll E. Smith, Sr. who passed away in 1974, her husband James William Phillips and son Carroll E. Smith, Jr. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer.
