He was born January 27, 1913, in the Latch Community to Stephen Hope and Lou Burcham Carroll. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Hattie Langford, Bessie Pool, and Lillian Thompson, and three brothers, Lewis Carroll, Kermit Carroll, and Glen Carroll. Gib attended schools at Latch, Little Mound, and Big Sandy. He farmed in the Little Mound community until age twenty-nine when he moved to Gilmer and married Gladys Williford on November 27, 1941. He was a clerk at Hudgins Department Store before becoming part owner of Carroll Bros., a wood products plant that serviced ten states for seventeen years. In addition to working together, the Carroll Brothers also sang together and were well known in the community for their ability to entertain. Gib loved his Lord and his family. He was a dedicated member of the Gilmer Church of Christ, having served as an elder for ten years. He was a Bible class teacher, took part in mission trips, and served where needed. He also used his musical talent to sing for many funerals throughout the Gilmer area. He was currently a member of the Mesquite Church of Christ. Gib also had a talent for writing poems and songs. Two sacred songs, "There Will Be Peace" and "He Gave Me His Love", were published in 1983. His ability to create jokes was enjoyed by his friends as he always had one ready for their enjoyment. He kept busy during his retirement years by fishing, traveling, and making clocks from China plates. On January 26, 2010, one day before his 97th birthday, he was inducted into the Sons of the American Revolution, an achievement for which he was most proud.
