Due to the current public health situation and mandates set in place for COVID-19, a private family graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park for Dr. James Franklin Malone.

Dr. Malone will be in a visiting room at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer on Friday, April 24, 2020 from 1:00 P.M. until 1:45 P.M. for those who wish to come by.

Dr. James Franklin Malone, 94, of League City, Texas, formally of Gilmer, was born on July 1, 1925 and passed away on April 20, 2020. Dr. Malone was a professor and an administrator for many years. He loved studying history and could often times be found doing projects around the house. He collected post cards, cars, and license plates, as well as other knickknacks. Dr. Malone was a member of the Gilmer Rotary and served as a deacon at the First Baptist Church in Gilmer.He was also a veteran, having actively served in the United States Navy from 1943 until 1946.

Dr. Malone is survived by his daughter, Terri Finley and husband, Eric of Houston; brother, Claude Forrest Malone of Tyler; and grandson, Daniel Finley of Houston.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Verna Jo Malone; mother, Annie Barnett; and father and step mother, Claude and Leta Malone.
