Floy Jeanne (Meadows) Vessakosol

Floy Jeanne (Meadows) Vessakosol unexpectedly and suddenly passed from this life and went to be with Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 24th, 2020. She would have liked it to be known she did not die of the coronavirus pandemic. She was born in Gladewater, Texas, on October 6, 1940 to Charles Floyd Meadows, Sr. and Willia Mae Ford Meadows. She was the first of three children. She has had the nickname “Tooch” or “Toochie” since she was a little girl. She had lovely red hair and a strong personality which was apparent to everyone who came in contact with her. Her sister Mattie Frances knew she was the boss but also her best friend. Later her little brother Charles realized the same thing. She became a Christian at age 8. She loved going to church with her parents. She did well in school. During high school, she was the Homecoming Dutchess in 1957-58. One of her favorite high school memories was marching with the band in the Cotton Bowl Parade. She was very active in school activities and graduated from Gladewater High School in 1959. Floy graduated from North Harris County College and attended classes at Kilgore College and William and Mary. She was also a proud member of Choctaw Nation.

Floy’s beloved husband Virothai “Vic” Vessakosol was originally from Thailand. He immigrated to Texas and was attending LeTourneau University in Longview when they met at a Friendship Baptist Church social in Gladewater. Vic and Floy were married in Gladewater on August 3, 1963. After being wed, Vic (now in the US Army) and Floy were transferred to Ft. Eustace in Virginia. There Floy continued her long career as a medical transcriptionist at many different hospitals and at home later in her career. Floy was devoted to Vic and their marriage. Despite many who said their marriage would never last, she and Vic stayed together, had three beautiful children of whom she was extremely proud, and stayed happily married for the rest of her years. They celebrated their 56th anniversary last year. She loved her family with a shepherd’s zeal, and her family was devoted to her. She supported all sports and activities – rain or shine or sleet. Floy loved getting together with her family, and looked forward to attending the annual Ford Family Reunion in Kilgore. She was devoted to her Lord Jesus, working in various roles in her church. For many years she was the church clerk, she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, she sang in the choir, and often sang solos with her beautiful alto voice. Recently she had been serving on the Baptism Ministry and the Pastor’s Greeting ministry at First Baptist Church of Humble. Outside the church, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking, photography, and music. Floy played accordion, saxophone, organ, and piano. She loved collecting hummingbirds and kitchen trivets. Floy found great joy in shopping, but mostly in finding really good deals. For many years she suffered from diabetes and she worked hard to successfully manage it, but she never complained about it. Besides telling her daughter and granddaughters to be sweet, her favorite advice was to always have a plan B if plan A doesn’t work out.

Floy Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, son and daughter-in-law Anthony “Tony” Victor Vessakosol and Donnessa LeAnn Myers Vessakosol, brother Charles “Junior” Floyd Meadows, Jr., nephew John Wayne Cox, Jr., nephew Charles Bryan Meadows, brother-in-law Todd Vessakosol, and brother-in-law Dennis Patrick. She is survived by her husband Vic, daughter Krista Simone and husband Dr. Douglas Hibbs of Rockwall, son Timothy “Timmy” Patrick Vessakosol of Rockwall, sister Mattie Frances and husband John Cox of Gladewater, sister-in-law Lynda Meadows of Tyler, and granddaughters Helen Hope Hibbs, Halley Ann Vessakosol, and Addison Samorn Vessakosol. She is also survived by nephew Gary Wayne Cox, nephew Christopher Michael Meadows, his wife Rebecca, and their children Bryan and Lily of Gladewater, and numerous beloved cousins and their families.
We also want to acknowledge Mr. & Mrs. Vessakosol’s extensive Thai family in Thailand. Vic and Floy traveled many times to Thailand. The family there loved her very much. Her sister-in-law Pimpan Vessakosol wrote, “This is a heart-broken news for us, all the Vessakosol. We are so proud to have Floy in our family. She is best-loved by all of us despite her difference. She always enjoyed staying with us in Thailand and she could join well with all our Thai cultural activities, including food—particularly her favorite sticky rice with mango. We all remember her smile every time we met. We love you, Floy. Wish you Rest In Peace with the Lord and your son. — From the Vessakosol in Thailand.”

Floy is survived by Thai relatives in Thailand: Vorovit Vessakosol, Jitbordee Vessakosol, General Aiyarat Vessakosol and wife Dr. Pimpan, Charupat Aegintumas and husband Tawen, Thanit Vessakosol and wife Angsana, Sisaya Kusolpuchong and husband Kasem, Pawarit Vessakosol and wife Gift, Major Peyarat Vessakosol, Go Aegintumas, Egg Aegintumas, Egkasuet Vessakosol, Korkiat Vessakosol, Nilobol and Dr. Vit, Major Siwapong Kusolpuchong, Nobskie Vessakosol, and Thanawan Suthisomboo, and Thai relatives in USA: Mona Puntoompoti and husband Watanachie of Queens, NY, and sons Ben and Tom Puntoompoti of New York, and Janice Cline and husband Nathan of California.
