Mr. Frank C. Martin, age 87, of Big Sandy, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2019 in Tyler. Frank was born on November 17, 1931 in Bowling Green, Missouri to the late Walter and Rebecca (Grable) Martin. He attended and graduated from high school in Bowling Green, before being drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War, in which he served honorably for two years, and continued that service in the reserves for several years. He later attended trade school to study carpentry, and moved to Texas to work alongside his brothers, building homes in Longview and White Oak during the 1950’s and 60’s. He also worked as a contract carpenter for over 30 years for Kerr Engineering. After retirement, he continued his woodworking and carpentry, building barns, homes, furniture, and other woodcrafts. He also ran a pine tree farm, and served on the local Forestry Committee. He married the former, Doris Youngblood on May 31, 1957 at the First Baptist Church of Gladewater. He was a faithful servant of the Lord, and a devoted member of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Homer and Ray Martin; and one sister, Susie Brown.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mrs. Doris Martin of Big Sandy; two sons, Jessie Martin and wife Donna of Tyler, Tommy Martin and wife Sheila of Big Sandy; three brothers, Charlie Martin and wife Marie of Louisiana, MO., Larry Martin and wife Brenda of Cleburne, TX., Eddie Martin and wife Deena of Jefferson City, MO.; two sisters, Margie Jones and and husband Charles of Phoenix, AZ., Helen Johnson of Eolia, MO.; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 21, 2019 under the pavilion at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Pritchett, Bro. Danny Trimble will officiate; honoring Frank with their service as pallbearers will be, Daniel Martin, Zach Martin, Adam Lewis, Karl Fulmer, Tim Peay, and David Peay.
