George Clark

George Bryan "G.B." Clark, Jr., aged 88 passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2012 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was born on December 8, 1923 in Upshur County Texas, the third child and second son of George Bryan Clark and Jessie Mae Martin Clark. He attended Union Hill School. Early in life he worked at his father's sawmill in Simpsonville, Texas. G.B. was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 46th Construction Battalion (SeaBees) of the United States Navy. He was a truck driver. His service included working on Henderson Field on the island of Guadalcanal after the U.S. Marines captured it from the Japanese. The Japanese made a weak attempt to recapture the field during his stay on that island, but were unsuccessful. He also served on the Canary Islands as well as other islands in the South Pacific. G.B. was graduated from what was then East Texas State Teacher's College in Kilgore. His oldest daughter, Kathleen, started to first grade in Gilmer, Texas the same day her father started to college. He obtained his Master's Decree in Education from the University of Houston. He taught special education in the Houston ISD and then worked with the Texas Rehabilitation Agency before accepting the position as Assistant Director of Special Education for the Texas Education Agency in Austin, Texas. Regardless of where he lived, his heart never left East Texas and he returned to Gilmer, Texas in the mid-1960 until March 2, 2011 when he moved to Fort Worth. He became Superintendent of Schools for Union Hill where his wife, Dorothy Louise Busch Clark and his step-son Doug Busch also worked. He was never without a project or a dream and lived life to its fullest. He is survived by his sister, Juanell Stelle Tullos, of Houston as well as his three daughters, Kathleen Burson, Rebecca Clark Lucas and Judy Clark and his step-sons Carl and Doug Busch. He is also survived by his beloved grandsons: Alan Wayne Brooks, Hoy Woods Miller, Dr. Johnny Lucas, Bryan Clark Lucas, Douglas Andrew Lucas as well as great-grandchildren, Philip, Hannah and Julian Brooks; Jack, Rob and Benjamin Lucas; and Rachel and Jessica Lucas and his loving friends, Louis and Lois Corenblith of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by many precious nieces and nephews and their children. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Louise Busch Clark, his sister Geraldine Lewandowski of Marshall, Texas and brother, Winston Clark, of Marshall, Texas. Graveside service will be held 1:00P.M.,Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Sunset Memorial Park in Gilmer with Reverend Donnie Fenton officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 29 from 5:00 until 7:00 at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer.
