Glenn Richard Buettner

Glenn Richard Buttner, 82, of Gladewater passed to the loving arms of Our Savior in the presence of his family on July 11, 2015. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. at St. Theresa"s Catholic Church in Union Grove on Saturday, July 18, 2015. Visitation and Rosary will be Croley"s Funeral Home in Gilmer, Texas on Friday, July 17, from 6-8 p.m. Glenn was the 12th of 14 children born to John and Capitola Buettner in on August 17, 1932 in Wartburg, Illinois. His parents both died young and Glenn and six of his siblings were sent to the Lutheran Children"s Home in Addison, Illinois. He and his brother Del, were later sent to a foster home in Springfield, Illinois. . His remaining brothers and sister, John, Del and Zona all live in the St. Louis area. He joined the Coast Guard in 1950 and served in the Great Lakes at Sault Ste. Marie, and also in Alaska on the cutter, U.S.S. Storis. He so enjoyed reliving those glory days on an Alaskan Cruise in 2013! He returned to the St. Louis, Missouri area and went to work at the Fisher Body Plant, until his brother "Dutch" got him a job driving a truck from St. Louis to Chicago, which started his lifelong career as a Teamster driver, ending it in California with Hadley Auto Transport. There wasn"t a state he hadn"t been to or major city he hadn"t been in. He was a safe driver and also passed on this ability to all of his children. He met his wife, Ann, in California, and they "retired" to East Texas in 1992. He continued to work part-time for various transport companies, and working on his property. Glenn started working with another RV Sales lot across the highway, and ended up deciding to open his own RV lot across the street. Countryside RV Sales Inc. was born and still operating with his wife and grandson, Tim. Glenn loved the outdoors, working on his property and with his cattle. He enjoyed family and friend gatherings, especially the camping trips! Annual trips to South Fork, Colorado in the heat of summer were always a welcome break from the RV business. And his love of the East Texas area, enticed 4 of his children to move here. He loved his Bible study classes at St. Theresa"s and his church friends from Saturday night Mass. He was a member of the Crystal Cathedral in California, while he lived there, and also followed the TV program. He was a Moose from the Wood River, Illinois Lodge. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, and nine siblings. He is survived by his loving wife, Ann of 25 years, children, Gary (Robin) Buettner, Tina Hammond, Daniel (Angela) Buettner, Elizabeth (Adam) Finkelstein, Timothy (Kimberly) Buettner, Kathie Hagan, Shannon (Dedeuc) D"Antonoli , and Julie Cole, 16 grand-children and 5 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice, and the loving staff at the Clairmont, for the wonderful care during these last few months. In lieu of flowers, donations made in Glenn"s name to the Scholarship Fund at St. Theresa Catholic Church would be much appreciated.
