Obituary for James Michael Callaway

A memorial tribute for James Michael “Mike” Callaway, of Gilmer, will be held Tuesday, December 4, 2018 from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer, Texas.
Mike was born to Ernesteen Callaway and the late James Doyal Callaway on September 15, 1952 in Upshur County, Texas and passed away Monday, November 26, 2018 in Gilmer.
Mike was a 1971 Gilmer High School graduate where he participated in the National Honor Society, basketball, baseball, football, pole vaulting and track and field events. He graduated for Kilgore College in 1973, and the University of Texas in Austin in 1976 with a BBA in accounting.
He was employed by Texas Eastman Gas and Oil Transmission Company in Shreveport, Louisiana in November, 1976. The company moved to Houston, Texas where Mike retired after 20 years of service and soon thereafter returned to Upshur County.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Charlene Callaway and granddaughter, Julia Mae Callaway of College Station; and daughter, Tanner Lee Callaway of Tomball, Texas; his mother, Ernesteen Callaway; aunt Rose Jobe; uncle Joe Davenport and wife, Maria; and a host of cousins and friends.
Mike was an avid gun collector and loved hunting and fishing, a love he shared with both of his children.
