Janetta Marie Jones

Gladewater -- Services for Marie Jones, 95, of Gladewater will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at 10 A.M. at Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bailey Harris officiating. Burial will be in Gladewater Memorial Park. Born on February 4, 1917, in Donaldson, Arkansas, she died on Saturday, October 20, 2012. She was a carrier and staff photographer on an all-woman staff with the Gladewater Mirror before working as a staff photographer for the Longview News-Journal. During that time she worked under the publisher, Carl Estes, and some of the highlights of her career there included photographing three United States Presidents. After retiring from the Longview News-Journal, she enjoyed being a caregiver for Mrs. Dake for many years as well as later in her 80"s working for Austin Bank in Longview. She especially enjoyed bowling, cooking, and spending time with her friends and family. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Jim Smith of Gladewater; Janetta Owens of White Oak; son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Jill Jones of Gladewater; 5 granddaughters, Lisa Martin of White Oak; Mary Ann Tant, Sandra Thur, Stephanie Jones, and Andrea Deary, all of Gladewater; eight great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Henry and Lillie Belle Marsh; husband of 32 years, Lewis Jones; and eight siblings. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. on Monday, October 22, 2012, at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater.
