Jeanette Landers Bishop

Jeanette Landers Bishop of Pittsburg, Texas, whom some only knew as Granny, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 in Longview, Texas after 95 years of loving others generously through her gifts of gardening, sewing, cooking, and spending quality time with others. She joins her inseparable companion and husband of 68 years, LJ Bishop, to enjoy God"s presence and love. Jeanette was born in February 1921 in Camp County, Texas to Noah Hicks Landers and Cora Bell Milligan Landers where she grew up with siblings Floy, Roberta, Horace, and Marie, along with fostered brother Allen Duke. She graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1939 and several years later on November 1, 1942 married LJ Bishop. While raising their daughters, Charlotte and Yvonne, Jeanette was a homemaker and sewed beautifully intricate formal and pageant dresses for Mike Benet Formals for 20 years. After retiring, she enjoyed gardening over two acres of vegetables, keeping half of Camp County stocked with multiple varieties of peas. The daughters, whom she instilled hard work, charity, and grace, continue to celebrate her memories with their respective families. Charlotte and husband Lloyd Jackson enjoy traveling to exotic locals from their home in Longview, TX. Her daughter Yvonne and husband Rex continue her legacy of gardening and canning in Gilmer, TX. The grandchildren that loved her cobblers, pound cakes, and dressing include Carmen Youngblood, Kevin and Nicole Youngblood, and Brian and Sarah Youngblood. Her great-grandchildren she never failed to tell they were loved include Colson, Ellie, and Wilder Youngblood. Her sister Marie Landers Santora continues to cherish the memories of spending summers with Jeanette in Texas and their cross country train trips from her home in Long Beach, California. Her sister-in-law Patsy Bishop, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also cerebrate a life well lived. Jeanette joins in rest her husband, parents, and siblings Floy Landers, Roberta Landers Bynum, Horace Landers, and Allen Duke. Jeanette"s life and memories will be celebrated Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer, TX during a visitation with the family at ten, immediately followed by a memorial service at eleven. Afterwards she will be laid next to her husband LJ at Willow Oak Cemetery near their home in Upshur County. The family would like to thank the uniquely gifted professionals at HeartsWay Hospice, Good Shepherd Medical Center, and Upshur Manor Nursing Home for the loving care provided to Jeanette in her final years and hours.
