Jeff N. Johnson

Funeral services for Jeff N. Johnson, 65, of Gilmer will be held 2:00 P. M. Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Don Stanaland and Broadus Gravette officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Gilmer. Mr. Johnson passed away on Monday, August 18, 2014 in Dallas. Jeff was born on September 12, 1948, in Texas City, Texas to Henry Dalton and Margaret Johnson. After graduating from Westwood High School in Palestine, Texas, he attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. In the late 1970"s, Jeff began working in the oil field and stayed in that profession until retiring in December 2013. Jeff helped many people during his life, and always insisted that real giving was done in a quiet and often anonymous way. Married to his loving wife of 38 years, it set a great example of love and family life. Jeff had a love of rodeo, particularly calf roping. His involvement in the sport began when he was a young man with lifelong friend Broadus Gravette. Jeff loved a good story-both the telling and hearing of one. He also admired a well made saddle, a good horse, and a fine hand tool. In his later years he greatly enjoyed his grandson, Max. Jeff is survived by his wife, Fran Johnson of Gilmer; son, Matt Johnson and his wife Crystal of Gilmer; brother, Joel Johnson and his wife Kathy of Frankston; mother-in-law, Ruth Grimes of Gilmer, sister-in-law, Bobbie Richards of Gilmer; grandson, Max Johnson; nephews, Steven Youngblood, Michael Johnson, and Travis Johnson. A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday August 20, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer.
