Lynn Paul Alexander

Lynn Paul Alexander, age 81, of Gilmer, passed away on Tuesday, September
24, 2019 at Longview Regional Medical Center. Lynn was born on September 9,
1938 in Erath County to the late W.E. "Dub" and Flo Richardson Alexander.
He married his beloved wife of 61 years, the former Kathryn Elaine Rinehart
on April 26, 1958, at the First Christian Church of Gladewater. Lynn joined
the U.S. Army after high school, where he was a trumpeter in the U.S. Army
Band for six years. He then attended and graduated from Officer Candidate
School, and was commissioned an Artillery officer. He served honorably for
22 years, including two tours in Korea, and two tours in Vietnam. He
received numerous awards and commendations, including the Army Commendation
Medal for Valor, two Bronze Star Medals for heroism in combat, and the
Meritorious Service Medal. After retiring from the Army, he worked as a
probation officer and drug and alcohol counselor, founding the first
program of its kind in Lufkin. Lynn continued his service to his fellow
veterans as a member of Buglers Across America, playing "Taps" at military
honors funerals. He was a member of the First Christian Church of
Gladewater where he served as Music Director, the Lake Country Symphonic
Band as first chair trumpet, and former member of the Nacogdoches Rotary
Club. Lynn and Kathy traveled extensively throughout the years, for
recreation and to visit their daughter and son-in-law serving overseas in
the military. He was an avid golfer, a trait passed down from his father to
him and his sister. But his greatest joy in life was entertaining and
spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Terry Lynn
Alexander.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Alexander of Gilmer; daughter,
Sherry Whiteside and husband Lee of St. Simons Island, GA.; sons, Terry
Alexander and wife Betsy of Bullard, Tim Alexander and wife Kate of Big
Sandy; sister, Patti Alexander of Gilmer; six grandchildren, Paul
Alexander, Laura Khurana, Jessica Adams, Katie Alexander, Todd Alexander,
