Funeral service for Mrs. Nora (Betty) Elizabeth Steelman, 93, of Gilmer, will be held Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Charles Johnson and Bro. James Peoples officiating, interment to follow the service at Sunset Memorial Park under the direction of Croley Funeral Home. Family will receive friends Friday, May 25, 2018 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer. Mrs. Steelman passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2018 in Gilmer.

Nora was born on December 19, 1924 in Eastern Upshur County to Clifford and Myrtie Hopkins and grew up in the Simmons Community. She graduated from Harleton High School in 1942 and married Dean Steelman in 1959. She was also a member of First Baptist Church of Gilmer. Nora worked for Safeway in Gilmer for 25 years and after her retirement in 1987, she and Dean were able to travel all 50 states and several provinces in Canada. She enjoyed playing games and having fun with her grandchildren. Nora will always be remembered for her love for her family and God, her sense of humor and her ever-present smile.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Dean Steelman; sons, Jerry Dugger and wife Stacia of Gilmer, Jimmy Dugger and wife Angi of Tyler; daughter Janice Dugger of Gilmer; grandchildren, Stacy Bowden and husband, Chris of Gilmer, Tracy Leach and husband, Clint of Gilmer, Shelby Brooks and husband, Jason of Whitehouse, Erin Mace and husband, Jeff of New Braunfels, Missy Walker and husband, Scott of Terlingua, and Sammy Horner of Gilmer; great grandchildren, Kyle Bowden and wife Kate of Gilmer, Alli, Emily, and Kylie Leach, Camille Dworaczyk, Erica and Emma Brooks, Sydney Mace, and Samantha Horner; great great grandchildren, Hadley and Bodie Bowden; brother, Bert Hopkins of Bryson; sister-in-law, Patsy Swanner and Dorothy Dugger.

Nora is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Bynum Dugger; brothers, Herman and Henry Hopkins.

The family would like to thank Heartsway Hospice of Northeast Texas, 4351 McCann Rd. Longview, TX 75605, for their care and kindness in her last days.
