Norma Blythe Jones Lacy

Norma Lacy, 89, of Gladewater, Texas, passed away December 20, 2020 in Longview, Texas.

Norma was born on December 24, 1930 in Camden, Arkansas to Erich Blythe Jones and Edna Lessie McDonald Jones. She graduated from Pine Tree High School and attended Kilgore Jr. College where she was a proud two-year member of the Kilgore College Rangerettes. She then attended North Texas State, where she earned a Bachelor of Music Education and a Masters of Music Education, with a focus on Elementary Music. It was at North Texas State that she saw Alfred Lacy and stated to her friends that “I’m going to marry that man”. After her return to East Texas, she began her career as an educator at Union Grove, then moved to White Oak Independent School District as the pioneer of the Music Education Department, fostering a love, excitement and interest in music and the other arts for many generations of Roughnecks.

Norma and Alfred married on August 10, 1957. Norma retired from White Oak Independent School District after 41 years of service. She and Alfred were honored to be selected as Grand Marshalls of the Homecoming Parade of 2012, much to the delight of her prior students. Norma proudly referred to her students as “her kids” as she was extremely proud of each and every one.

Norma enjoyed the Longview Symphony, Shreveport Symphony Orchestra and Shreveport Opera, fine dining, shopping at Neiman Marcus in Dallas, but most of all traveling the world with Alfred.

She is preceded in death by her parents. Norma is survived by husband of 63 years, Alfred E. Lacy, her sister Marti Jones Brewerton, nieces Melinda Lacy Wilson and Juli Lacy Kane along with nephew Denver Miller.

There will be no visitation or services scheduled at this time. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
