Funeral services for Odis R. Hammock, 91, of Big Sandy, Texas will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at Croley Chapel in Gilmer with Bro. Seth Johnson, Bro. Jeremiah Dollenger and Charles Penney officiating. Interment will be in Chilton Cemetery in Upshur County. Arrangements are under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer. Mr. Hammock passed away Saturday, October 13, 2012 in a Tyler hospital. Mr. Hammock was born August 18, 1921 in Big Sandy, Texas to Jerry Granville and Alice Roe Hammock. He retired from Big Sandy Independent School in 1988, after having served as Principal for 46 years. He held a Bachelor and Master of Science Degrees from East Texas State University with Post-Graduate work at The University of Texas at Austin. Mr. Hammock was a lifetime resident of Big Sandy and a member of the First Baptist Church of Big Sandy, where he served as Deacon for many years. He also served on the board of the Big Sandy Museum Association. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hammock of Big Sandy; step-daughter and husband, Rhonda and Lakel McIntyre of Lindale; stepdaughter, Melissa Love of Lindale; sister-in-law and husband, Shirley and Pete Winters of Yantis; niece and husband, Shelley and Tod Chance and their sons, Aston and Izaak of Haynesville; niece and husband, Mollye and Brian Glasscock and their daughters, Callie, Caroline and Cate of Arlington; step-grandchildren, Jason and Megan McIntyre of Lindale, Payton Herrington of Lindale and Landon Love of Lindale; step-great-granddaughter, Kinzleigh Grace McIntyre of Lindale. Pallbearers will be Mike Sheeley, Preston Dozier, Mark White, "Boo" Buchheit, Lloyd Steadman and John Craft. Honorary Pallbearers will be T.E.L. and Women"s Sunday School Class, Glenn Campbell, Living Members of the Class of 1939 and all students who attended Big Sandy ISD during the 46 years he was principal. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Big Sandy Building Fund, P.O. Box 658 Big Sandy, Texas 75755 or Big Sandy Museum Association, Mary Lingle, c/o Austin Bank, Big Sandy, Texas Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 15, 2012 at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer.
