Robert O. Chappell passed away, Friday, October 19th at Longview Regional Hospital. Memorial services will be held at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer, Texas, Tuesday, October 23rd at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Michael M. Cook of Oakland Heights Baptist Church, officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, at 1:00 P.M. prior to the memorial service.

He was born in Arp, Texas to Acie Chappell and Effie Barton Chappell on January 14, 1929. Robert went to school at Leverett's Chapel and later joined the Army and served in The Korean War as part of the First Guided Missile Group and was recently awarded a United States Flag by Louie Gohmert. Robert was married for over fifty years to the late Thelma Jean Roberts Chappell. He was married to his second love, Jean Oliver Chappell, for nine years until his death. He worked as a Chemical Operator at Texas Eastman for twenty-one years. He later became self-employed with several full-service gas stations in Longview, Texas. Robert was a former member of the Elks Club, a former President of the Summit Club in Longview, a former active member of First Baptist Church Gilmer before relocating to Longview, and involved in many civic and community activities over the years. He also volunteered with the Upshur County Shares Food Bank in Gilmer, Texas.

Robert is preceded in death by his son, Larry D. Chappell, his parents, Acie and Effie Chappell, brothers, Clyde Chappell, Roy Chappell, Earl Chappell, Charles Chappell, Cecil Chappell, sisters, Marguerite Chappell and Linda Oar, and grand-daughter, Khristina Lyn Chappell.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Jean Oliver Chappell: sons, Danny Chappell and wife Shirley, Bobby Chappell and wife Kim, and Chris Chappell: daughter, Pat Ellison and husband Bobby: Step-sons, Dave Oliver, Dan Oliver, and Jim Oliver: brothers, Harmon Chappell and wife Sharon, Glenn Chappell and wife Margie: sister, Nina Miley: 9 grand-children, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church Gilmer.
