Rodney Russell "Rod" Carter

Cremation arrangements for Rodney Russell “Rod” Carter, 66, of Gilmer are under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater. A celebration of life visitation will be held from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2018, at Croley Funeral home in Gladewater. Mr. Carter passed away Thursday, May 31, 2018, in Tyler.

Mr. Carter was born January 14, 1952 in Great Bend, Kansas to the late Russell Rogg Carter and Stephania “Fannie” Schneider Carter. Rod worked as a carpenter/builder and could build or fix anything; he was the handyman for his family and friends. He enjoyed gardening, camping, NASCAR and spending time with family and friends. Mr. Carter was a Texas A&M Aggie fan and was extremely proud of his daughter and grandson who were graduates of Texas A&M. Rod was described as quiet and reserved; he chose to speak with actions not words. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will forever live on in the hearts and memories of those he leaves behind.

Rod is survived by his wife of 43 years Denise Carter; three daughters Michele Burnaman and husband Brad, Melissa Amann and husband Brent and Miranda Carter-Foster and husband David; his beloved English bulldog Casey; eight grandchildren Morgan, Travis, Kamryn, Jackson, Rylee, Carter, Gracie and Emma Kate as well as many other loving family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister Connie Burnett.
