Funeral Services for Ronnie Dale Moore, 62, of Gladewater will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at the Dodson Auditorium on the Kilgore College Campus with Joe Chase and Larry Osborne officiating. Interment will be in the Gladewater Memorial Park. Mr. Moore departed this life at the end of a valiant struggle on Friday, June 10, 2011. He was lifted upwards to meet his Lord by the love of his wife and daughter who were at his side. Ronnie was born October 13, 1948 and was born and raised in Gladewater. He attended Gladewater Schools and graduated from Gladewater High School in 1968. During his high school years, Ronnie excelled in sports. Due to his imposing physical presence, Ronnie was a formidable fullback on the football field. Though he was a force to be feared and reckoned with as an athlete, off the field he was known as the most gentle and caring friend. He greeted all he met with an open heart and a helping hand. Ronnie attended Kilgore Junior College and Stephen F. Austin University where he was a standout on the football teams at those institutions. He also attended East Texas State University at Commerce. During his college years Ronnie began his life as a public servant; first as a fire fighter at Gladewater and later, for the City of Kilgore. In total, he spent 32 years as a fire fighter/police officer. During his long career as a public servant, he served the City of Kilgore as a first responder/firefighter, Fire Chief and finally as Director of Public Safety and Emergency Services. He also served that city as interim City Manager on several occasions. He served as Assistant City Manager for the City of Kilgore the year before he retired. Ronnie served on the East Texas Council of Governments (ETCOG) and was instrumental in planning and development of the 14-county East Texas Region. He was a force behind the development of the Fire Training Academy for the East Texas area and taught fire science courses at Texas A&M University. A dedicated public servant valued church member, beloved friend, adored husband and loving father; Ronnie"s family has always been the center of his life. He is "My Big Guy" and adored husband to his wife Sue and loved his children beyond measure. He was beloved by his classmates and has made countless friends and admirers during his professional life and through his church community. His family has always been the center of his life and the life he lived has been an example of Christian love and goodness. He is survived by his wife: Sue Clifton Moore of Gladewater; daughters: Sara Moore of Gladewater and Shelly Moore Lockwood of Gladewater; sons: Brandon Noah of Kilgore and Cameron Noah of Austin; brother: Mike Moore of Kilgore; father: James M. Moore of Gladewater. Ronnie was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie Moore. Pallbearers will be Luke Fisher, Randy Hancock, Steve Scurlock, Tom Witherspoon, Tim Rivers, and Maxey Cerliano. Honorary pallbearers will be the Members of the Kilgore Fire Department and the Kilgore Police Department. In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to contribute to the "Friends of Sue and Ronnie Moore" at Austin Bank in Gladewater, Texas (attention Todd Clifton) to help defray the cost of the family"s battle for Ronnie"s health. The family will receive visitors Monday June 13, 2011 from 5:30 to 7:30 at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater, Texas.
