Rubye L. Taylor, 90, passed away unexpectedly Thursday morning, February 15, 2018 in Fort Worth, Texas where she had recently moved to be near her family.

A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 19, 2018, at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gladewater with Bro. Bailey Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Gladewater Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Croley Funeral Home.

Born in Wright City, Texas, on March 11, 1927, Rubye was the daughter of Granvil Herman and Ola Mae Wilson Waller. After graduating from Salem High School and Federal Institute School of Business in Tyler, Texas, she became a secretary and bookkeeper.

Rubye married William M. (Mack) Laney in 1950. They had a son, Michael Douglas Laney, and a daughter, Beverly Anne Laney. They were later divorced. In 1974 she married Mark T. Hollis of Ft. Worth. He passed away suddenly in 1981.

Through her church, Rubye was reconnected with her childhood friend and neighbor, Herbert Wayne Taylor. They were married 32 wonderful years until his death in 2015.

In addition to secretarial work, Rubye most enjoyed being a mother and homemaker. Her family was always the center of her life.

As a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Gladewater, Rubye was a faithful worker, teaching, serving, and singing in the choir. She was also a member of Tuesday Bible Study Club for many years. Rubye was a true gentle lady who doted on her children and grandchildren.

Rubye was preceded in death by her parents, Granvil Herman and Ola Mae Waller; three brothers, Curtis Waller, Gene Waller, and "Buddy" Waller; sister, Yvonne Waller Martin; and husband Herbert Wayne Taylor.

Remaining to treasure her memory are Rubye's children, Doug and Brenda Colwell Laney of Owasso, Oklahoma, and Craig and Beverly Laney Slayton of Ft. Worth, Texas. Sisters, Billie Waller Martin of Longview and Debra Waller Channon of Plano, Texas. Three grandchildren, Shannon Slayton Spurlock of McKinney, Texas , Jennifer Laney Wright and husband Alex of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Sean Slayton of Ft. Worth, Texas. Three great-grandchildren, Sydney, Brooklyn, and Dakota. In addition, Rubye is survived by her special step children and their families, a dear sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Paul King of Gladewater, and several special nieces and nephews.
