Services for Mr. Russell A. Polson, 87, of Gilmer are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 30, 2013, at East Mountain Baptist Church with Dr. Russell Polson, Jr. officiating. Interment will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, April 1, 2013, at Oaklawn Memorial Cemetery in Athens, Texas under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer. Mr. Polson passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 in Longview. He was born on December 23, 1925, in Southeast Missouri to Noah and Nellie Styne Polson. Mr. Polson served in the U. S. Army during WWII. On May 12, 1978, Russell and Wynell Akin Mayfield were married in Longview, Texas and lived in the Gilmer area for about 30 years. He was a member of East Mountain Baptist Church. For over 20 years, Mr. Polson served the Ministry of Underground Evangelism and later founded of the Resource Center for Biblical Morality. Mr. Polson is survived by his son, Russell A. Polson, Jr. and wife, Cindy of Jasper; daughter, Sheila DeFord of Stephenville; daughter, Connie Rauch and husband, Douglas of Alvarado; stepson, Stuart Mayfield and wife, Cindy of Waxahachie; 12 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Johnson Polson and his siblings. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 29, at 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
