Theta Mae Brown

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Theta Mae Brown, our loving and devoted mother and friend to all whose lives she touched, on January 24, 2019.
She left us peacefully at her residence in Simpsonville. She was in her 89th year.
Born on August 20, 1930 in Ada, Oklahoma to Walter and Ollie Mae (Foster) Smither, she moved and enjoyed her early life in California. There she met and married her husband Deward O. Brown and raised their two sons. Then they moved to Gilmer where she has resided for over 50 years.
She retired many years ago from Pilgrim’s Pride as an executive assistant and proudly continued to care for her family and home; enjoying farming and ranching with her husband who passed away August of 2013.
Theta was a dedicated mother and Granny first and foremost. She treasured her children and grandchildren and embraced every moment with them. Even learning how to text and get pictures on her iPad to stay in touch with ‘her boys’ every day. She loved them and everything they did.
She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
She was the beloved mother of her two sons, Darrel O. Brown of Houston, and Dennie Brown and his wife, Melanie, of Dallas; a proud grandmother of Clayton Brown, Travis Brown, Stephen Brown, Matthew Brown, Jason Brown and Michael Brown; and great grandson, Truett Christopher Brown.
Predeceased by her sister Norma.
A celebration of Theta’s life will be held 12 noon, Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Simpsonville Baptist Church with Bro. Richard Wells and Bro. Holland Atchley officiating. Interment will follow the service at Simpsonville Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Friday, February 1, 2019 at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer.
