GILMER "Services will be held for Violet Stephens Attaway, 85, of Longview on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at Matinburg Missionary Baptist Church on FM 556 in Southern Camp County. Burial will follow in the Matinburg Cemetery with Dr. Keith Kelley of Macedonia Baptist Church of Longview officiating. Visitation will be held at 12:00 noon at the church immediately preceding the service. Mrs. Attaway went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 25, 2015. Violet Allison Stephens was born in Simpsonville, Texas, to Jewel Lafayette and Gladys Guthrie Stephens on July 4, 1930. Violet married Leo Dudley Attaway on October 26, 1946. She was a homemaker. Violet is survived by her husband of almost 69 years, Dudley, and two children, son, Dudley Paul Attaway and wife Beverly of League City; daughter, Susan Attaway Gilbert of Gilmer; three grandchildren, grandson Kirk Gilbert of Gilmer; and granddaughters, Angela Attaway and husband Sergio Rios of League City; and Robyn Sanchez and husband Javier of Saudi Arabi; and six great grandchildren, Lauren Johnson, Joaquin Sanchez, Emilio Sanchez, Lucio Sanchez, Kaya Gilbert, and Liv Gilbert. Violet is also survived by her brother, J.L. Stephens of Alba; three sisters, Virginia Palmer of Overton, Glendy Slaughter of Scoggins, Dionne McCrea and husband Charles of Yantis and sister-in-law, Octavia Stephens of Arlington and numerous nephews and nieces. Violet was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Billy Stephens; brother-in-law, Wayne Palmer and Obie Slaughter; and son-in-law Robert Gilbert. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hwy 80 Rescue Mission, 3117 W. Marshall Ave., Longview, TX 75604. The family would like to gratefully acknowledge Dr. Srinivas Rangu, the caring staffs of Highland Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Compass Hospice, and the Agape Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church, Gilmer.
