Whitney Leigh Shepperd

Whitney Leigh Shepperd went to meet her Lord and Savior on June 21, 2015 after a lengthy struggle with the complications of Type I diabetes. She was born in Dallas on May 31, 1976 and was a lifelong member of Park Cities Baptist Church. Whitney graduated from Highland Park High School in 1994 and earned a nursing degree from Baylor University, where she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. During her career, Whitney served as a pediatric nurse and later as a Care Coordinator for Our Children"s House at Baylor Hospital. She was also a traveling nurse in New York City, Austin and Houston. Most recently she worked as a Case Manager for United Health Care. Her love of life and people made her a favorite with colleagues and patients. Whitney is survived by her parents Marilyn and Larry Hastings of Dallas, Beth and Ben Shepperd of Tyler, by her maternal grandmother Merle Cross of Gilmer, and by sisters, Allyson Shepperd Glass and husband William of Fairfax, VA. and Julie Shepperd Cooper and husband Douglas of Dallas. She is also survived by her stepsisters Mollie Barrow Huff and husband Rick of Peoria, Il. ; Elizabeth Barrow Kinsey and husband Bob of Peoria, Il.; Sara Hastings Mooney and husband Todd of Dallas, and stepbrother Wade Austin Barrow and wife Brook of Fort Worth. Whitney is also survived by fourteen nieces and nephews who were a source of constant joy to her. Preceding her in death are grandparents Melvin Cross and Mary Jo and Jimmy Shepperd, all of Gilmer and stepbrother Ryan Hastings of San Antonio. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 25th at 2:00 PM in the Sanctuary of Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Park Cities Baptist Church of Dallas, First Presbyterian Church of Tyler, Brother Bills Helping Hand of Dallas or the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
