GILMER- Mrs. Winnie Faye Dean Kennedy, age 94, died January 19, 2016, in Jefferson, Texas after a brief illness. Mrs. Kennedy was born in Gilmer, Texas to Jerry and Maggie Dean, the fifth of their nine children. She lived her early years in Upshur County as the family moved around for her father"s livelihood, owner of a sawmill. Mrs. Kennedy married Carson Kennedy in 1942 during WWII and lived in Madison, Wisconsin, San Antonio, Alpine and Laredo. After the war, Carson went to work for the First State Bank of Gladewater and they moved to Gladewater in 1954. Carson died in 2000, but Winnie continued to live her remaining years in Gladewater. She was a member of the North Main Church of Christ, Daleth Study Club, Gladewater Garden Club, Creative Christians and was active in many clinic events. Mrs. Kennedy is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Carson, four sisters and three brothers. She is survived by her son, Bill Kennedy and wife Diann of Jefferson; daughter, Cherie Kennedy Quarles and husband Tom of Rockdale; grandchildren, Jeff Large and wife Brenda of Baytown, Mark Quarles and wife Cindy of Sugar Land, Robert Quarles and wife Stephanie of Houston; great-grandchildren, Christopher Large, Shelby Large, Kane Quarles; brother, Bill Dean and wife Virginia of Gilmer; sisters-in-law Jo Dean and Mary Jo Dean of Gilmer; and brother-in-law Harry Thweatt of Amarillo. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will gather to honor Mrs. Kennedy"s life on Friday, January 22 from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Croley Funeral Home 305 W. Harrison St. in Gilmer, TX, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 1:00 P.M. Private interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park. The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Creative Christians, First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1167 Gladewater, TX 75647 or to a charity of your choice.
