Alexander Michael Stephens, 78, of Kountze, died Monday, August 10, 2026. He was born on March 10, 1948, in Gilmer, Texas, to Jeanne Geradine Wolfs Stephens and Arlyn Leon Stephens.

A 1966 graduate of Gilmer High School, he worked for J.B. White Co., as a salesman and manager from 1962 until 1988. From 1989 until retirement, he worked at the Hardin County Appraisal District as a Field Appraiser and later as Chief Appraiser. In his spare time, he loved working outdoors in the yard and mowing the grass in his “good” clothes. Known for his sweet smile, kind heart, and generosity, he was well liked by many. He was an avid sports fan and almost never missed watching his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys, on TV.

Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-four years, Gayle Stephens; children, Kyle Stephens and Kimberly Stephens, both of San Antonio; siblings, Jeanne Attaway and her husband James, of Nacogdoches; Robert P. Stephens, DVM of Pittsgrove Township, New Jersey; Mary Pritchett, Arlyn Stephens, Jr., and his wife, Susie, all of Gilmer; and Patricia Stephens, PhD, and her spouse, Ana Rosenblum, of Boston, Massachusetts; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.

A Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m., with a Memorial Mass for Mr. Stephens at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Infant Jesus Catholic Church, 243 South LHS Drive, Lumberton, under the direction of Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee. A gathering of family and friends will follow the Memorial Mass at 12:00 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall. His cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.

A Memorial Graveside service will be held 11a.m. Thursday, October 1, 2026 at Sunset Memorial Park in Gilmer, Tx under the direction of Croley Funeral Home.
