Arthur “Bud” Philip Joseph Wilken, age 78, of White Oak, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2025 surrounded by his family.

Bud was a devoted husband, a proud father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a friend to all who knew him. He never met a stranger, and wherever life took him, he formed lasting friendships that often became family. Known for his humility, generosity, and strong work ethic, Bud lived a life defined by meaningful relationships, hard work, and love for those around him.

Born and raised in Michigan, Bud carried a spirit of adventure with him throughout his life. He proudly served in the United States Air Force. Following his service, he eventually settled in San Antonio, Texas, where he began building both his career and his family.

A true jack of all trades, Bud had a curious mind and a willingness to try just about anything. He enjoyed scuba diving, sailing, working on cars, traveling, woodworking, and was an avid stein collector. Though he dabbled in many hobbies, he built his professional career as an electrical engineer. He spent many years working at the Pearl Brewery in San Antonio before moving his family to Georgia, where he worked at the Anheuser-Busch canning plant. Later, Bud returned to East Texas, where he owned and operated The Bar in Gladewater, another place where friendships flourished and stories were shared.

Above all else, Bud was a family man. Nothing brought him more joy than time spent with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. He took immense pride in their accomplishments and consistently emphasized the importance of education. Bud loved having everyone together and often said, “the more the merrier.” His home, and his heart, were always open.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and stepmother Eunice, his mother Phyllis and stepfather Jerry, and his siblings, including his sisters Kathy, Fran and brother David.

He is survived by his loving wife, Karin Wilken; his children, Jennifer Elizabeth Wilken, Amy Wilken Mashburn and husband Joe Mashburn; his stepchildren, Melinda Lynn Page, Michael Shane Page; his grandchildren, Chrystan and fiancé Caleb, Alyssa, Shae and husband Nathan, Jessica, Jackson; his great-grandchildren, Wrenley and Noah. He is also survived by his brothers, Tommy Lowry and Dean Hamlin, and his sister-in-law, Dee Lowry, along with many extended family members and dear friends.

A Receiving of Friends will be held on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Croley Funeral Home – Gladewater. Arrangements are under the direction of Croley Funeral Home. Flowers can be sent to the funeral home or donations may be made to Truman W. Smith Children’s Care Center in Bud’s honor.
