A private interment for Bennie Lee Garner, 88, of Gladewater was held at Friendship Cemetery in Gladewater. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic no further services are scheduled at this time. Mrs. Garner passed away Friday, August 21, 2020, in Kilgore.
Bennie was born December 22, 1931 in Heber, California to the late Benjamin H. Clounch and Daisy Turner Clounch. She worked as a seamstress for over 20 years; but as a teenager she sewed clothes for her family. Bennie was a hardworking and always did her best to provide for her children. She was a devout Baptist and taught Sunday School. Bennie was always willing to help those in need especially the elderly. She enjoyed gardening and writing; authoring a book of her own “The Enduring Clounch’s”. Bennie will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will not soon be forgotten by those she leaves behind.
She is survived by her daughter Judy McGuire and husband Tony; son James Ray Garner and wife Cindy; sister Betty Jane Sanford; three brothers Ben Hatcher, Joe David Cushing and Phil Moody; eight grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren as well as many other loving family and friends.
Bennie is preceded in death by her parents; son Joe Garner and eight siblings Lindy Clounch, Marion Clounch, Marylou Brashear, Daisy Mae Clounch, W.D. Clounch, James Howard Clounch, Ella Nora Sanford and Shirley Rose Sanford.
The family request in lieu of flowers that memorials in Bennie’s name be made to the Friendship Cemetery Association at 23393 C.R. 3107, Gladewater, TX 75647.
