Obituary

Billie Earl Thomas Johnson was born November 27, 1946, and passed away on October 28, 2026.

Billie will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her deep love of family, and the simple joys that made life special. Faith and family were the foundation of her life, and nothing meant more to her than the people she loved. She was a devoted member of the Church of Christ for many years, and her faith was an important part of who she was. She loved her church family and remained devoted to the Lord throughout her life.

Billie was married to the love of her life, Larry Johnson, for nearly 46 years. Their love story began at church while they were in high school, and from that sweet beginning grew a lifetime of love, friendship, and devotion. Larry was not only her husband but also her best friend and the love of her life. She missed him dearly after his passing, and the love they shared remained one of her life's greatest blessings.

Throughout the years, Billie worked as a cashier at Skaggs and in the loan department of Southside Bank. She took pride in her work and was known for her steady dedication and the care she showed others.

Billie found her greatest happiness in being surrounded by family. Family gatherings and holidays held a special place in her heart, and she treasured every opportunity to bring those she loved together. She had a gift for making ordinary moments feel special and creating memories that would last a lifetime. She especially loved baking and was well known for her delicious homemade biscuits and cinnamon rolls. Her kitchen was a place of warmth, love, and wonderful memories, where something good was often baking, the cookie jar was always full, and everyone was welcome.

Outside of her love for family, Billie enjoyed fishing, gardening, and especially tending to her beautiful roses. She loved sewing and quilting, bowling, traveling, and watching good movies. Some of her happiest moments were spent with her grandchildren. She especially treasured the travels and adventures they shared, creating wonderful memories and enjoying the excitement of discovering new places together. Whether they were off on an adventure, enjoying a movie night, baking cookies, or simply spending time together, Billie loved every opportunity to spoil her grandchildren and make them feel special. She also had a special love for Mexican food and enjoyed sharing good meals, laughter, and conversation with those she loved.

Billie treasured lifelong friendships, especially with Sarah and Lavonia, dear friends she had known since childhood. Their years of friendship were a special part of her life, filled with cherished memories, laughter, and a bond that stood the test of time.

Above all, Billie loved her family wholeheartedly. Her faith guided her, her family brought her joy, and her love was evident in the countless ways she cared for those around her. Whether through a homemade meal, a family celebration, a thoughtful gesture, or simply time spent together, she had a way of making those she loved feel special. The traditions she created and the memories she leaves behind will continue to be treasured for generations.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Steven Johnson and wife Hayley of Big Sandy; daughter, Kelly Sampson and husband Kevin of Troup; brothers, Randy Thomas and wife Peggy of Big Sandy and Jimmy Thomas of Grand Saline; six grandchildren, Jared Jones, Justin Jones, Spencer Sampson, Autumn Westmoreland, Lyndsey Brown, and Haden Johnson; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Billie was preceded in death by her parents, William Thomas and Iva Potts Thomas, and her beloved husband, Larry Johnson.

Though she will be deeply missed, Billie's legacy of faith, love, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her family will forever cherish the memories of holidays spent together, the warmth of her kitchen, the laughter shared around the table, the adventures they enjoyed, and the unconditional love she gave so freely.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and honor of Billie's life. Visitation will be held October 30, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer.
