Billy Joe Hardwick, 86, of Big Sandy, Texas, passed away on September 23, 2021, in Tyler, Texas.

Billy was born on January 15, 1935, to the late James and Elizabeth Rice Hardwick in Iuka, Mississippi. He retired from the United States Army as a Military Police supervisor, he was decorated three times in Vietnam and he also fought in the Korean War. Billy was also a member of the Big Sandy Church of Christ. He is survived by his sons, Danny Hardwick (Kathy), Ricky Hardwick, and John Hardwick; step sons, Mark McDonald (Sharon) and Chris McDonald (Nikki); step daughter, Jamie Hudson (Newton); sister Diane Randolph; grandchildren, Bobby Hardwick (Desiree), Jennie Terrazas (Johnny), and step granddaughter, Bailee Miller; great grandchildren, Allanah, Ashlyn, and Aben Terrazas, Charlize, Dakota, and Sawyer Hardwick

He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.

Funeral service for Billy will be held at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer at 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 28, 2021 with Pastor Bobby Hardwick officiating, interment to follow at Chilton Cemetery.
