Billy Smith Cates

Graveside services for Billy Cates, 86, of Gilmer, will be held at 10 A.M. on Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at Enoch Cemetery in Upshur County. Mr. Smith passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at his home. Billy was born November 23, 1928, to John L. and Bernice A. Cates. He served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict and worked as a roughneck in the oil field. He is survived by his daughters, Darla Flynn, and husband, Gregory, and Shona Cates, both of Gilmer; a sister, Sue Seay of Mt. Vernon; and many daughters that he claimed as his own family. Visitation will be held, Monday, June 22, 2015, from 6 t0 8 P.M. at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home in Gilmer.
