It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Bobby Ray Moyers, a true East Texas gem. Bobby was born on March 10, 1936, to Roy Wesley and Pearl Moyers at their home in Wilkins, Texas. After 89 years in this life, he was called home to God on May 31, 2025, at his home, just as he wished, with his family close to his side. Bobby lived a life filled with love, laughter, and generous spirit.

Bobby was a man of many talents and passions. For 69 years, he was a skilled barber, a career he loved and continued until just last year. He was known to brighten countless days with his friendly banter and unwavering honesty, always ready to lend an ear or offer sage advice. Above all, Bobby cherished his family, especially his beloved wife of nearly 64 years, Kathryn Ilene Penick, whom he married on June 18, 1961. Their bond was a testament to love and commitment, and together they built a beautiful family that extended beyond blood ties.

His heart was as big as his love for the outdoors, especially fishing—you could always find him at his favorite spot, rod in hand, ready to return home with dinner and a smile. And oh, the barbecue! Bobby was known far and wide for his mouth-watering BBQ that had friends and family alike begging for his secret recipe. His passion for cooking and catering made family gatherings a feast to remember, where good food and good times flowed freely.

Bobby’s community spirit shone brightly as he served as an elder at the local church, playing an instrumental role in the construction of the church building on the loop in Gladewater. He was a regular fixture at Friday night football games, tirelessly volunteering in the concession stand to support his kids and cheer them on. Bobby was deeply involved in the Gladewater Rodeo, happily lending his time to a cause he loved, bringing joy to the spirit of the rodeo season.

A cowboy at heart, Bobby had a fondness for farm animals and rode his horse everywhere as a kid. He loved to travel fast, stopping only for fuel, and was always ready for the next adventure. He spent countless hours in his woodworking shop, creating delightful treasures and sharing his creativity with those around him. Bobby had a knack for picking out beautiful jewelry for Kay, always finding the perfect piece to remind her of his love.

Bobby proudly served his country, spending a year on active duty in the United States Air Force, followed by six years in the National Guard. His legacy is one of service, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.

Bobby Ray Moyers will be missed dearly by his loving wife Kay; son, Kevin Moyers and his wife Vonda; daughter, Connie Dougan and her husband Kyle; granddaughter, Shauna Lyke and her husband DJ; grandson Wesley Moyers, his wife Katherine and their children, Shaun, Johnathon, and James; grandson Caleb Moyers, his wife Ariana and their children, Tanner, Cannon, Praislee, Fielder, Dawsyn, and Bodie; grandson Keegan Moyers, his wife Dusty and their children, Kylan and Delilah; grandson Justin Headen, his wife Katie and their children, Jaxon, Cami, Aaron, and Joey; granddaughter, Cayla Headen; granddaughter Kylie Dougan; grandson Brayden Dougan; and his sister Ada Frost; as well as many other devoted family and friends who will carry his spirit in their hearts forever. The size of Bob’s family, however, pales in comparison to the number of lives that he not only touched in some way, but are better lives because of him.

A visitation will be held on Friday, June 6th in the chapel of Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater, Texas from 6 to 8 in the evening. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 7th at 2 in the afternoon at the North Loop Church of Christ in Gladewater, Texas. In true Bobby fashion, we invite everyone to share stories and celebrate the remarkable life of a man who brought joy to all who knew him. Family and friends are welcome to join us in honoring a life well-lived and filled with love.
