Obituary

Charles Donald “Chuck” Hiberd Sr.

August 29, 1947 – March 22, 2025

Charles Donald “Chuck” Hiberd Sr., 77, passed away on March 22, 2025, after a life marked by patience, friendship, family, and a wry sense of humor and wit that rarely failed to bring laughter to those around him.

Chuck was born on August 29, 1947, in Denison, Texas, to Claude Donald Hiberd and Martha Wilene (Easterly) Hiberd. His family later moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he attended school until 1965, when they returned to Texas and settled in Terrell.

While still a young man, Chuck joined the United States Marine Corps and completed his high school education while serving his country. He trained as a helicopter mechanic and served in Vietnam, where he also served as a military policeman. Following his return home, he continued building on the mechanical skills that would remain a defining part of his life, earning a degree in diesel mechanics from Eastfield College in Mesquite, Texas.

Chuck had an uncommon ability to understand how things worked. If it had a motor, there was a good chance he could repair it. He was the kind of person family and friends could turn to when something needed fixing, and his mechanical ability was matched by a dry, wry sense of humor that made people laugh wherever he went.

Chuck was the father of two children, Charles D. Hiberd Jr. and Kimberly Ann Hiberd. Later in life, he met his best friend, Sharon M. Green, and the two married in 1988. Together they built a life in Tyler, Texas, surrounded by family.

Their marriage brought together not simply two people, but a large blended family. Chuck embraced Sharon’s six children as family, and they in turn loved him as their own. Over the years, that family grew to include many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who affectionately knew him as “Papa Chuck.” Some of his happiest years were spent with Sharon in Tyler, enjoying family, grandchildren, laughter, and the everyday moments that became treasured memories.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Donald Hiberd and Martha Wilene (Easterly) Hiberd; his brother, Larry William Hiberd; and his grandchild, Taylor Council.

At the time of his passing, Chuck was survived by his wife and best friend, Sharon; his children, Charles D. Hiberd Jr. and Kimberly Ann Hiberd; Sharon’s six children, whom he loved and who loved him as family; his brother, Gary Hiberd and wife Kathy of Burleson, Texas; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Sharon passed away on September 9, 2026. Chuck and Sharon were both cremated, and their family now gathers to remember and celebrate two lives that were deeply intertwined for over 40 years.

Chuck will be remembered for his service to his country, his remarkable ability to fix almost anything, his unmistakable sense of humor, and above all, the patience, friendship, and love he brought to the people around him.

He is sorely missed, and the laughter, stories, and memories he left behind continue to be treasured by those who loved him.

A joint memorial service honoring Chuck and Sharon will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at Croley Funeral Home in Hawkins, Texas. The date would have marked Sharon’s 80th birthday, making it a fitting time for family and friends to gather in remembrance and celebration of their lives.

Chuck and Sharon will be laid to rest together at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, north of Hawkins, Texas.
