Charles Edward Holmes

Charles Edward Holmes, born on August 1, 1939, in Gilmer, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025, in his beloved hometown. He was a cherished member of the Gilmer community and is remembered for his dedication and hard work throughout his many years as a banker at Gilmer National Bank.

Charles was a man who found happiness in the simple pleasures of life, you could often find him outside, riding his tractor, fishing or roping. He was a member of the First Methodist Church. Charles was a big Gilmer Buckeye fan and loved supporting his community.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Randlyn Holmes of Gilmer; son, Ed Holmes and wife Tammy of Gilmer; daughter, Charlotte Hewitt and David Dorsey of Gilmer; sister, Carolyn Happel of League City; grandchildren, Courtney DeBord and husband Josh, Connor Hewitt and wife Ashtyn, Hayden Holmes, Lyndy Parnell and husband Rodney and Dustin Benton, Trent Dorsey and wife Jordan, Laci Kern and husband Kyle; great grandchildren, Heath Holmes, Jhett DeBord, Hayden Holmes, Lara James Hewitt, Jack Dorsey, Alice Dorsey and Deacon Kern along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Ovie Lee Holmes and Gwen Cook Reardon.

Pallbearers are Larry Stokes, Todd Parish, Les Morris, Kollin Hurt, Gary Nugent, Phil Dyer and Wade Beckham. Honorary pallbearers are officers and employees at Gilmer National Bank.

A visitation to honor Charles will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer, TX. A funeral service will take place on October 6, 2025, at 1:00 PM at First Methodist Church in Gilmer, Texas. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Gilmer.
