Funeral services for Mr. Charles William Minshew, 94, of Hawkins, Texas will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, March 4, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Hawkins with Dr. Allison Byerley officiating under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Hawkins. Interment will be held at Hawkins City Cemetery.

Mr. Minshew passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017 in Tyler and was born on October 17, 1922 in Peach, Texas to Hugh Minshew and Omie Smith Minshew. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the European theatre - Rhineland, Huertgen Forest and Battle of the Bulge, Germany. During his time in the Army he received four campaign stars, a purple heart and a bronze star. Mr. Minshew owned Minshew General Merchandise in Hawkins and was a Mason, a Shriner and a member of the Scottish Rights. He was also a retired law enforcement officer, fire marshal and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hawkins.

He is survived by his sons, Charles William Minshew, Jr. and his wife, Joy of Keller, Texas, Stephen Vaughan Minshew and wife, Terri of McLean, Virginia; daughters, Marlene Minshew Kinney and her husband, Mark of Dallas, Texas and Melissa Minshew Johnson and wife, Juliana Johnson of Richmond, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Minshew, who passed away in 2008; parents, Hugh and Omie Minshew; son, Mark Allen Minshew and sister, Laverne Phillips.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 3, 2017 from 6:00P.M. to 8:00P.M. at Croley Funeral Home in Hawkins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, Texas 75701 or Shriners Hospital for Children, 3100 Samford Ave., Shreveport, Louisiana 71103.
