Clovis Wilson Steelman was born on May 2, 1934, in Pritchett, Texas and passed away on April 14, 2026, in Tyler, Texas.
Clovis faithfully served his country in the United States Army, enlisting in 1953 and dedicating two decades to military service before retiring in 1973 as a Chief Warrant Officer W-3. His honorable service reflected a deep sense of duty and dedication that defined much of his life.
Following his military career, Clovis pursued a career as a petroleum engineer with Unocal in California. He then became a business owner, continuing to build his life and career there.
Later, he returned to his hometown and transitioned into the real estate business, where he continued to contribute to his community, establishing a legacy of trust and reliability.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Clovis was a committed member of the First Baptist Church in Gilmer, where he found spiritual comfort and fellowship.
Those left to cherish his memory are his 3 sons, Martin Steelman of Nevada, Robert Steelman of Washington State and James Andrew Steelman of Massachusetts; daughter, Katherin VanSickel of California; brother, Mike Steelman of Longview; sisters, Janice Lyle of Wills Point and Sue Hagler of Ohio; along with a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Clovis was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kuniko Okubo Steelman; wives that he opened his heart to after Kuniko’s passing, Deanna Steelman and Reta Steelman; parents, Edgar Doyle Steelman and Estellee Gage Steelman; siblings, Bill Steelman, Novelle Green, Jimmy Steelman, Kenneth Steelman and Ann Puig.
Family, friends, and all who knew Clovis are invited to pay their respects during a visitation at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer, Texas. The visitation will take place on April 19, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held the following day, April 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Gilmer. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Gilmer.
