It is with both sorrow and joy that we announce Cynthia Diane Walters Lane Chitwood, beloved wife, mother, Mema, sister, aunt and friend, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 20th, at the age of 73. Born on August 23, 1951, Cindy will be remembered for her sweet servant’s heart and love of her precious Jesus that she extended to everyone she met. Her life was a beautiful reflection of Christ’s love – humble, giving, and full of joy.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, June 28th, at 10 a.m. at Mobberly Baptist Church, where Cindy was a devoted member, preschool teacher and member of the nursery’s “Blessed Expectations” ministry, where she loved on many young families. Family and friends are invited to gather and worship, reflect on the many ways the Lord used her through her life, share stories, laughter and fellowship.
Cindy graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas in 1969 then attended Texas Tech and Howard Payne Universities. She fell in love with and married Douglas Lane in 1978. They had two children and a beautiful life together. Cindy served as the pianist and children’s choir director at First Baptist Big Sandy for many sweet years. Doug preceded her in death in 1990. Cindy had a heart to minister to other widows throughout her lifetime and sacrificed everything for her children. In 2004, Cindy married Ray Chitwood. She worked in school administration and retired from LeTourneau University, shortly after her second grandchild, Tristan was born. She was affectionately named “Mema” by her granddaughter April and treasured every minute of those precious years with her two sweet grandbabies.
Cindy is survived by her husband Ray, son Stephen Lane, daughter and son-in-law Rodney and Courtney Allison, grandchildren April and Tristan Allison, sister Margaret Stone, nieces Lori, Keeli, and nephew Charles, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and a community of loving friends.
Cindy was preceded in death by her parents Russell and Margaret Walters and husband Doug Lane.
We invite all who knew and loved Cindy to join us in celebrating and honoring her memory with joy, fellowship, worship and sweet treats, as she would have wanted.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that memorial donations be made to Hope Road Counseling or to the Mobberly Baptist Church Benevolence Ministry.
