Dixie Louise Calvert, a cherished member of the Gilmer community and a lifelong resident of East Texas passed away on June 4, 2026, in Gilmer, Texas. She was born on July 20, 1930, in Upshur County to James Edgar Henry and Sadie Lindsey Henry.
Throughout her career, Dixie devoted many years working in the cafeterias of Gilmer Independent School District as well as the Upshur House Café, continuing her legacy of hospitality and care within her hometown. In later years, she followed her passion and entrepreneurial drive by owning and operating a beloved doll shop located on the square in Gilmer, Texas. There, she shared her love of dolls and collectibles with the community, bringing joy to many collectors and visitors.
A devoted member of Gilmer Church of Christ, Dixie was deeply involved in her faith community. Her commitment to service and fellowship was evident throughout her life.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Tony Calvert (Leann Coyner); daughter, Elaine Davis; 7 grandchildren, Candis Lane, Courtney Calvert, Allen Calvert, Vanessa Ferguson, Brandon Smith, Matthew Williams and Lindsay Calvert; along with 18 great grandchildren.
Dixie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank Calvert; son, David Calvert; daughter, Jan Williams; granddaughter, Ashlye Thorpe and 9 siblings.
Visitation will be held on June 8, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Gilmer Church of Christ. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM at the same location. Interment to follow at Simpsonville Cemetery in Upshur County, Texas.
Dixie Louise Calvert will be remembered for her kindness and dedication to her work and community. Those wishing to remember her may consider making memorial contributions to Life Care Hospice.
