Osborne officiating. Burial will be in Gladewater Memorial Park under the direction of Croley Funeral Home. He was born on December 3, 1918, in Chemical Spar, Arkansas, to the late Jessie Barbara Green Henry and Walter Lee Henry. Walt passed away peacefully Friday evening, January 28, 2011, surrounded by his family, and he is now in the presence of our Lord and Savior. He was truly from the "Greatest Generation." He served in the United States Army as a 1st Lieutenant in the Infantry during World War II in North Africa and received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his service to our country. In 1946 he retired from the military. He received his D.D.S. from Baylor College of Dentistry in 1951 and moved to the Gladewater community. A life-long member of the First Baptist Church, he sang in the choir and was a soloist for many years. In addition, he was a leader in Gladewater for 55 years, serving as the President of the Gladewater School Board and the Rotary Club. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Wanda Henry of Gladewater; three sons and their families, Dr. Gary and Sandy Henry of Canyon Lake; Dr. Mark Henry of Gladewater; Lisa Henry of Gladewater; and Dr. Tim and Janneke Henry of Arlington; six grandsons, David Henry of Longview; Stephen Henry of Tyler; Matthew Henry of College Station; Christopher Henry of Kansas City, Kansas; Collin Henry of Canyon Lake, and Trevor Henry of Arlington and their families; a great-granddaughter, Eloise Ann Henry of Longview; two sisters, Melba Lancaster of El Centro, California, and Marilyn Prato of Stockton, California. Our "Big Dad" was a "beautiful" and "sweet" man and will be sorely missed by those who loved him.
